We all want Goochland to thrive — but fast-tracking major development without safeguards is not the answer. Let’s work together to ensure the TOD is revised, not rushed — and that all communities, especially those most affected, have a voice in shaping the future.
The character, environment, and property values of Goochland communities are at risk. The proposed ordinance could permit massive, industrial buildings By-Right, with no community input.
Many Virginia counties, including Henrico, have wisely shifted away from unrestricted By-Right approvals for similar developments, requiring Provisional Use Permits and/or Conditional Use Permits thorough public review processes. Goochland should consider adopting similar safeguards to ensure comprehensive evaluation of all projects, with full community participation and Board oversight.
Community input is not a nuisance; it’s essential.
The Goochland Board of Supervisors ended the Centerville Small Area Plan revision by unanimously voting to deny its adoption on October 4, 2023. The proposed plan did not reflect the community's vision and values. We continue to encourage community engagement and discourse to improve and protect our quality of life. We will take what we learned from this process to help our citizens choose how we can best grow as a community.
